Abstract:
Exotic nucleosynthesis processes are responsible for the production of
elements heavier than iron and for the luminosity profiles of the
so-called X-ray bursts. Nuclear structure inputs into the rp-process,
which powers X-ray bursts, have been shown to be very sensitive to not
only the decay and electron capture rates of nuclei involved, but also
to some of the finer structure of these nuclei. Experimental and
theoretical inputs of the rp-process are explored, and sensitivities to
nuclear structure are presented. In addition, an overview of
experiments to constrain the r-process will be presented.
