Electromagnetic probes are among the best techniques used in radioactive-beam facilities mainly because the electromagnetic interaction is well understood and also because it is intimately related to processes involving real photons such as photo-absorption and gammadecay. Electromagnetic probes are useful to extract information on nuclear structure and on fusion reactions of interest for astrophysics. I will discuss a few theoretical aspects of virtual photon interactions with exotic nuclei.
