The mass table FRDM(1992) has an error of 0.669 MeV with respect to aninterim 1989 massevaluation with 1654 nuclei. We have now finalized a new mass tableFRDM(2012) whichhas an error of 0.5595 MeV with respect to the 2149 nuclei in theAME2003evaluation, towhich its model constants were adjusted. There are several reasons forthis improvement:1) we optimize better the macroscopic model parameters, 2) we study thepotential energyin a full four-dimensional deformation space. 3) we include the effectofaxial asymmetryon the ground state energy 4) we have improved the calculation ofground-state zero-pointenergies, A brief summary of this work is in Ref. [1]. Locallysubstantialimprovements wereachieved, mainly in regions of shape coexistence. We have compared the1992 and 2012 tablesto the nuclei in the new trap measurements by [2] in such a region ofshape coexistence. For the 1992 table the rms is 1.10 MeV, for the new table 0.38 MeV, forthese nine nuclei. We also present the impact of the new mass table on r-process abundancecalculations.
